On July 23, 2026, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) General Patrol members in Waywayseecappo First Nation received a report from a distressed male who had fled a residence in the community.
The male advised police that he had been with two adult males from Waywayseecappo First Nation who were in possession of firearms. He reported that the males were handling the firearms in an intimidating manner, causing him concern for his safety. When he saw an opportunity to leave the residence, he fled and immediately contacted police.
Due to the serious public safety concerns and information that both suspects were subject to multiple court-ordered firearm prohibitions, the Waywayseecappo Detachment requested assistance from the MFNPS Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit (CREU) and the Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU). Investigators quickly drafted a search warrant, which was subsequently approved.
The MFNPS Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit also requested assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), who agreed to support the operation
