A special kind of people braving the cold to raise funds

It certainly takes a special group of people to suit up when the temperature is -35 and the windchill is 45 below and get on your snowmobile for a 250 km run to raise funds for the Lions Eye Bank.
On January 23rd, nine skidooers and their crew stopped at Choy’s in Binscarth as their final stop in the Lions Journey for Sight to finish the Journey for Sight ride from Flin Flon ending in Brandon. These are the folks who left the other group in Dauphin taking another route, before meeting them Saturday. This was a five day ride collecting donations as they rode. They are finished the ride for 2026 but donations are still accepted. The total so far this journey has raised is $62,375.70. The annual fundraiser, officially celebrating its 40 year anniversary this year, had its beginnings in 1986 when two members of the Birtle Lions Club collected $100 in pledges and rode their snowmobiles to The Pas. Since 1986, the journey, which follows the route from Flin Flon to Brandon has raised more than $2.5 million.
