Year after year, the prospect of a second grocery store in Russell has been on the wish list of many from throughout our trading area. So it’s no surprise that people have been watching the progress of the 19,800 square food building going up on the west side of town. And they’ve made great progress. In less than a year, the exterior of the building is complete, hydro is installed and the work on the interior of the building is underway heading toward an opening date expected in June.
“We are offering an option with regards to grocery shopping,” Twin Valley General Manager Dwayne Moncur said. “There is room for another food store in the community; we are happy to fill that void.”
“Our food division is looking forward to joining our other commodities in Russell and building on the relationships and partnerships that we have in the community. The new store will boast a full function Bakery/Deli, serving fresh bakery and deli items daily as well as value-added meal options with quick and easy in mind.” “We will be providing our famous Co-op chicken along with other hot and ready to serve meal options,” Moncur added.
“Of course, our store will be filled with Co-op Gold products that are sure to impress all of our members.” And there’s other Co-op only perks too. “We also offer a Kids Club program to our younger members under 12 years old, providing contests for them as well as treats and snacks while they shop.”
Now, the push is on to hire staff, Moncur said. “We are currently recruiting for five management positions which are advertised on our website.” In addition, the new food store will be looking for 20-25 cashiers, stock, deli, warehouse, meat associates, etc.”
Moncur was quick to point out some of the most important drawing cards for their team members - competitive salaries, a comprehensive benefits package and an employer-contributed pension plan.
“We embrace diversity and inclusion and we’re working to create a workplace that is diverse as well as excellent career opportunities, advancement and educational opportunities for our employees. We take pride in investing in the communities we serve, as well as the team we have on our front lines so if you or anyone you know is looking for a career, please visit the Twin Valley Co-op website at https://www.twinvalleyco-op.crs.”
“One of the best reasons to shop at Co-op is the equity you earn-who doesn’t love spending money that you have to spend and knowing that you are earning equity and cash back on your purchases? We are very excited to be able to feed into the local economy by contracting local services, supporting community events and organizations and keeping our members money truly local.”
