Fish derby a success
The weather was absolutely delightful for the annual Langan Lake Fish Derby held Saturday, March 8 and hosted by the San Clara/Boggy Creek Métis Local.
The first prize of $1,000 went to Ryan Lemieux of Esterhazy who landed a 26 inch long specimen.

Smith's Saltcoats squad wins Men's
A rink from Saltcoats triumphed over all comers to win Roblin’s annual Men’s bonspiel.
This year’s spiel featured 16 rinks in a pooled round robin format with the winners in each pool advancing to the first event bracket and rinks finishing second, third and fourth to the second, third and fourth events.

No foul play in Gregoire deaths
A man and his adult daughter from Roblin who were found dead in their vacation apartment in Mazatlán were not murdered as initially believed.
Rumours of foul play began circulating in the community Tuesday after news of the deaths of Marcel Gregoire, 78, and his daughter Kanene, 47, made the rounds.

Vermeylen's on a mission
Charlie Vermeylen is on a mission.
A spokesperson for the Métis Rights Coalition (MRC) and speaking on its behalf, Vermeylen discussed some of the concerns he has with the direction the Manitoba Metis Federation is going.

Concerned neighbour calls
Roblin RCMP responded to call from a concerned neighbour around 8:30 in the evening of Feb. 28.Neighbour had heard a loud bang and figured they were having sex, but wasn’t sure and wanted police to check it out.
Members checked it out and everything was fine.

Kendrick foursome wins Ladies
Entries may have been down from 20 to 18 rinks for this year’s version of the Ladies bonspiel but there was some great curling and camaraderie nonetheless.
The spiel got underway Thursday (Feb. 27) with the Leflar rink outscoring the Kreutner foursome in the only game of the draw.

More than $40K raised
The Roblin Golf & Country Club’s recent fundraiser at the Community Centre couldn’t have gone any better.
From the delicious buffet banquet served up by Marta Orlowska to the side-splitting show by hypnotist Sebastian Steel, the evening was a smashing success.

Chamber holds AGM
Apart from being short a couple of directors, things are looking pretty rosy for the Roblin & District Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber held its annual general meeting Wednesday evening at the Life & Art Centre and over Zoom with interim president Charmaine Dereniwski in the chair.

PADCOM, MMF sign deal
An unprecedented royalty agreement has been signed by the Potash and Agri Developmetn Corporation of Manitoba (PADCOM) and the MMF (Manitoba Métis Federation).
Under the agreement, royalty payments from PADCOM’s selective solution potash mine at Harrowby will be made directly to the MMF, with the federation having full discretion to use the funds received. Read all about it in this week’s paper.

Nykyforak farms a runner up
Nutrien Ag Solutions has announced the winners of its first Hometown Yield Challenge. This program was available to growers in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
The top two yielding farming operations were each able to choose a community organization to receive $20,000.
