Local woman wins Russell's TAYO lottery
Russell’s “Take a Year Off’ lottery committee drew its winning tickets recently and a local woman won the top prize of $1,000 a week for a year.
The grand prize of $52,000 went to Cathy Yellowaga with Jennifer Zimmer of Russell winning $27,720 on the 50/50 draw.

MVSD holds pre-budget consultation
Mountain View School Division (MVSD) held its pre-budget consultation Monday (Dec. 4), with options for people to attend in-person at the division office or virtually through Microsoft Teams.
Three areas identified in MVSD’s Strategic Plan for the 2023-2024 school year focused on Academics, Culture and Leadership.

Co-op forced to dispose of food
Thousands of kilograms of fresh, frozen and packaged perishable grocery items – including deli products and fruit and veggies – had to be disposed of after an equipment failure at the local Co-op grocery store.
Sometime after 7 p.m. Monday (Nov. 27) after the store shut down for the evening, the store’s main compressor providing cooling for freezers and display cabinets went down.

Last month was Endow Manitoba’s Giving Challenge, which runs for one week in the middle of November.
It gives community foundations across Manitoba a chance to collect donations and receive extra contributions from the Winnipeg Foundation and the Province of Manitoba, to help increase the amount each community foundation receives.

Vehicle check leads to drug charges
On Oct. 28, members pulled over a vehicle and located open liquor in the vehicle. The vehicle was searched further. Drug paraphernalia, cash, and drugs were located and seized.
Further test on the drugs showed that fentanyl was among the drugs seized. Two people were arrested and released with a first court appearance set for Jan. 18 in Roblin.

Historian and author Gordon Goldsborough is coming to the library for a special presentation of his newest book in the Abandoned Manitoba series!

Larsen heading for Vegas again
Winning a world championship is never easy. In rodeo, it takes amazing athletic feats and a little bit of luck.
Orin Larsen has been close to claiming that Montana Silversmiths gold buckle. In 2019, he finished just behind titlist Clayton Biglow. Three years prior to that, he was third in the final world standings.

House brings entrepreneur home
When Melissa Taylor found out “Ted the Barber’s” house and detached barber shop were up for sale, she made an offer on the property as soon as she was able to.
Taylor had been living and working in Edmonton – Covid forced her to quit her eyebrow microblading business in Roblin and head out west to find a job – and had been looking for a way to “come home” and start up her shop again.

Throne speech outlines new plan
The Manitoba government, joined by community leaders from across the province, laid out its plan Tuesday to work together, strengthen health care, lower costs for families and grow the province’s low-carbon economy in the speech from the throne.
“Today is a new day in our province,” said Premier Wab Kinew.
