It wasn’t his best finish at the Calgary Stampede but it wasn’t his worst by far. Shell Valley’s own Orin Larsen had to settle for fourth place overall among the 30 competitors in Bareback at the world’s largest outdoor rodeo.

Larsen began his quest for that elusive Stampede buckle on Day 7 with a sixth place finish in the first day of Pool C action, July 11. Day 8 saw him ride Barcelona City, a horse he was familiar with, to a first-place finish with a score of 88.0. On Day 9, Larsen finished in fifth place on Stinky Steve (82.0), winding up in second place in Pool C standings with an aggregate total of $10,500. That earned him a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday.

A third-place ride of 88.5 on top of Zastron Acres put him in the finals against the top four finishers. Larsen wound up in fourth place with a score of 86.50 on Agent Lynx. The Bareback buckle went to RC Landingham of Castle, California (94.0) with former Bareback champion Rocker Steiner in second and Leighton Berry in third.
