With the healthcare situation in the state it’s currently in, it is more apparent than ever that we need more people for these positions if we are going to turn things around. Working in healthcare can be an extremely rewarding career, especially if you are the type of person who likes to take care of or help others.
Former Roblinite Paul Nairn has had an extensive career in helping people, both in the field of paramedicine and in funeral services. Nairn is currently a District Chief of Paramedic Operations with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, but found his professional calling back when he lived in Roblin, and that career has continued from there.
“I’ve had two careers simultaneously between EMS and funeral service,” said Nairn. “The history of that is that at one time, funeral homes did provide ambulance service. My dad worked in a system like that with Jameson’s Funeral and Ambulance Service in Glenboro. He would tell me stories about how they would be doing a funeral and one of them would have to leave to attend to an accident, so one of them would have to go take the ambulance and respond to it.
