On June 20, 2025, at 9:50 p.m., officers from The Pas RCMP responded to a report of a house fire located on Hunter Drive in Cormorant.
As officers were enroute to the scene, a further report was received that a firefighter had been assaulted by a 29-year-old male during the execution of his firefighting duties.
The fight had been stopped by other firefighters and the two parties separated with the 29-year-old fleeing the scene.
The fire was then extinguished with no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Pas RCMP have issued a Warrant of Arrest out for 29-year-old Scott Wishart who is wanted for Assault and Uttering Threats.

Midwest Karate hosts annual tournament

Midwest Karate The Pas hosted their annual Joseph Kryschuk Memorial Friendship Tournament on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The tournament saw 30 athletes, from seven years old to adult, compete in a safe, friendly and competitive tournament. The one-day tournament is hosted each year by Midwest Karate The Pas club as a way to expose karate students to competitive karate in the region. Athletes from Flin Flon and Thompson Karate clubs joined The Pas this year.
"Each year we host a tournament as a way to introduce first-year karate students to karate as a competitive sport and allow our long-time competitors an opportunity to compete before they attend our national tournament," said Midwest Karate Club The Pas Head Sensei Jodie Kuhl. "This year our tournament went extremely well. We were excited to see several younger athletes who were just starting out competing.

Community filled the Edwards Ave. last Saturday, August 17th, to discover and support local businesses. There were a lot of shops and activities offered to different age groups that showcases number of cultures.

RCMP search for missing The Pas woman

The Pas RCMP search for missing 78-year-old female
On August 3, 2024, at approximately 2:30 pm, The Pas RCMP received a report of a missing 78-year-old female.
Laura Skelly was last seen on July 31, 2024 at approximately 9:20 am, leaving a residence on Campbell Street in The Pas.
The RCMP are concerned for her safety.
Laura was last seen leaving the residence in a 2019, black Jeep Compass, Manitoba license plate EXM 911. It is unknown where she may be headed.
The RCMP are asking anyone with information to call The Pas detachment at 204-627-6204, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Helping hands honoured

The Pas Helping Hands 4-H Club Members held their annual Achievement Night. Members successfully completed these projects: Adventure into 4-H, Scrapbooking, Geocaching, Explore Your Money, and Science in the Kitchen.
Outside of the project books, local 4-hers also spent time beekeeping with their mentor, Shawn Sexsmith, went on a Medicine Walk at the Opasquia Trails Boardwalk, participated in Culture Days, hosted a Japanese exchange student, tried out the boards at the Tribe Cable Park, hosted a 50 metre meal along with Round the Bend Farm, participated in the 4-H Canada’s National Show Your Green Day, entered a tree (and won!) in the Festival of Trees, held a wreath making workshop with Connie Havard, attended several holiday craft sales, assisted vendors at The Pas Arts Council’s Arts, Crafts, and More sale and entered projects in the KSD Science Fair.

The Pas Helping Hands 4-H Club repainted the Pride Bridge thanks to the Swan Valley’s Communities in Full Colour Initiative.  This was the initiative’s first donation and the club felt it was fitting to pain the bridge as part of Pride Month.

The Manitoba Wildfire Service, the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC), Manitoba Emergency Management Organization (EMO) and the Manitoba Fire Service are currently responding to a significant number of active fires in the area around Flin Flon and The Pas. There is extreme fire behaviour in the area caused by drought conditions and high winds.
As of Monday, fire WE010 near Flin Flon is approximately 31,600 hectares based on updated mapping and continues to impact the cottage subdivisions of Sourdough Bay, Whitefish Lake, Twin Lakes, Schist Lake North and Cranberry Portage.
The fire is approximately 1.5 kilometres away from Cranberry Portage and the community has now been evacuated to The Pas. Provincial Emergency Social Services is available to residents. The Rural Municipality of Kelsey has established a reception centre at the Wescana Inn in The Pas to register evacuees and to arrange for accommodations.
A reception centre has been established at the Victoria Inn in Flin Flon to support evacuees and assist with accommodations for residents affected by evacuation orders from Sourdough Bay Subdivision, Twin Lakes Cottage Subdivision, Whitefish Lake Cottage Subdivision, Schist Lake North Cottage Subdivision, Bakers Cottage Subdivision and Bakers Narrows Provincial Park.

The Town of The Pas has announced the hiring of a new Chief Administrative Officer. Bola Adedoyin, will begin in the role August 8 and according to a Town announcement she brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the town.
Bola Adedoyin is a statistician, researcher and a senior administrator who has served in numerous leadership roles both provincially and internationally.

Teddy Bear Picnic fun

The shone bright Sunday afternoon, welcoming community members to the lawn of Christ Church for their annual Teddy Bear Picnic. The picnic included a variety of activities for young and old, with performances from local singers & musicians, a bounce house, games, a free barbeque and a medic tent for children’s favorite stuffies to get tended to.
"At the end of last year's Teddy Bears' Picnic we promised this year would be double the fun and we delivered," Reverend Jann Brooks commented.
"We had great weather, great music, great food, great games, and great company. An altogether great day,” she added.
More than 200 people came to the picnic and by all reports enjoyed themselves throughly.

Discover The Pas OCN is a tourism partnership formed by the tri-community to establish and develop a local tourism industry that is competitive amongst the local and global markets. This partnership sees the communities of The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and RM Kelsey investing equally each year towards the initiative to support various projects. The partnership is currently in its second year of operation and is continuing to lay the groundwork to develop a sustainable tourism economy. “Discover The Pas OCN” was created by a third party marketing firm along with the iconic logo, to create a strong memorable brand. The local tourism industry is currently under the economic development portfolios of both The Pas/RM and Opaskwayak Cree Nation as they work together to establish brand awareness, exposure, and develop the fundamentals required for a sustainable delivery.
